A Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) provides services through a network of providers at a pre-negotiated rate. If you seek health care outside this network you may be asked to pay the full amount, though this depends on whether it is an emergency or not. You will need to find a primary care provider who will coordinate your care for you and refer you to specialists within the network.
