A Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) is a system in which you can get your healthcare from doctors or hospitals that are on your insurance company’s list of authorized providers. Unlike HMOs, you will not need a primary care provider referral, but this means you become responsible for making sure the healthcare provider you visit is on the list from your insurance company. If you visit a center outside the PPO then you could be expected to pay some or all of your medical fees.
