This is the coverage you get while you are pregnant. Depending on your plan, this covers all or part of the pregnancy and birth. The coverage tends to be split into outpatient and inpatient care. Outpatient care includes your pre and post-natal care – this means your visits to your OBGYN. Inpatient care is the period of hospitalization, which usually relates to the birth.
Maternity coverage is not included in most plans, but you can get it as an additional rider. It usually has a waiting period of 10 months to one year after the effective date- this means that any maternity-related medical charges during this period will not be reimbursed by the insurance company and will not count towards your deductible.
